A couple weeks ago we discussed why you should get PokerStars rakeback when participating in online games. This time I would like to describe some recent and upcoming live tournaments sponsored by PokerStars. PokerStars sponsors a huge number of live poker events around the world every year, and if you are not able to roll yourself for the events, you can play some cheap online satellites.
European Poker Tour London just finished up. If you are a member of PokerStars Elite, you could have chosen to play in the Main Event due to your PokerStars rakeback perks. Taking place from September 29th and October 4th, the series was a great success. The Main Event required a £5,250 buy-in, and it got 848 players for a total prize pool of £4,112,800. You are a PokerStars player if you are sponsored to play an event by the site or if you satellite into the event via your PokerStars download. The most successful PokerStars player in the field ended up being Arturn Wasek; he finished in 4th place for £240,000.
Another reason to support a PokerStars marketing code is that the site has a charitable side. EPT London hosted a 2-day event from October 2-4. Since £10 from each buy-in was going to Cancer Research UK, the total entry fee was £100+10+10. Re-entries were permitted in this event, and the guaranteed prize pool was an impressive £100,000. For those that couldn’t make the event but still wanted to donate, they could do so in the download free poker client itself. Funds could be transferred directly to the user ID “CancerUK”.
Those that want to visit Belgium can play poker in the Belgian Open Poker Championship from October 9th to October 17th. The Main Event Day 1 is split into 4 days, and you can play different tournaments on the other three days. In total there are 6 different events. Female fans of money poker sites might want to leave their computers for the day to play a freezeout for ladies only on October 17th for €110.
If you are American and play on US poker sites, you can go to Atlantic City for the United States Poker Championship. It costs $5,250 to enter the Main Event, but if you find this a bit much, you can win a seat online. The other option is to just stick to the smaller buy-ins between $300 and $600. The Ladies Event is $265+$35.
Sometimes we need to leave the poker downloads and the free poker no downloads behind and just play some traditional live poker. Every day someone new makes a name for themselves in a brick-and-mortar event! It is nice to see that PokerStars is bridging the gap between the live and online communities by hosting so many great live events.
